SELF PORTRAITS AND SKIN COLOR

We started work on our 2D self portraits giving the children an opportunity to develop their grapho motor skills.  The students worked hard to try and draw what they saw, taking time to look closely at themselves in the mirror and discuss the shapes.

Drawing their self-portraits is a four step process.  Step one is to draw their face using a pencil while looking at themselves in a mirror.  When they are happy with the pencil version they move to step two and go over the pencil line with permanent marker.

I was going to put their names next to each drawing but thought it might be fun for you to try and guess who they belong to.

Everyone will get to this stage before we move on to step three and four. Mixing paints to match our skin color and then painting our self-portraits.  The rest of the class will finish theirs tomorrow.

Before P.E. we read 'All the colors of the Earth' by Sheila Hamanaka.  The book looks at how our skin colors match things we see in nature.

Then we looked closely at items from nature and tried to find something that was close to our skin color.

We also acted out Ella's play 'The three little unicorns and the Big bad unicorn'.  The link is below

QUESTIONS
How many laps did you do in P.E.?
Did you ask for singing or counting when you got a drink from the water fountain?
