'M' WORDS

'M' words were our focus  today.  I requested that each child find 3 'M' words in the classroom,  it could be an object or a word they see. They could decide if they wanted to draw the item or write the word. Some friends did both.

There was still a lot of excitement around the Doctor's office.  The children  soon realized we had a lot of Doctors and not many patients.  Problem solving that situation we came up with a solution, ask the other class if they would be our patients.

It didn't quite work out the way we had planned.  At first we ended up with even more doctors, until a few children realized how much fun it was to be a patient. 

At the end of the morning we read "You get what you get' by Julie Gassman.  The story is about a squirrel called Melvin, he does not like his teachers favorite rule, "You get what you get and you don't throw a fit."

Continuing our work on community building and friendship we looked at this picture and discussed what was happening.

Q: What do you see happening in the picture?

Fang: There’s five kids playing, and one kid is upset.

Margot: I think they’re playing, but they’re not letting her play.

Grace: They’re not including her.

Margot: They’re not letting her play with them.

Grace: Maybe they’re being mean to her?

Q: What do you think the kids might be saying that might be making the girl sad?

Nolan: I don’t like you.

Margot: I’m not gonna be your friend.

Evy: You can not play with us.

Austin: Stop that!

Fang: I don’t want you to play with us.

Grace: You’re the meanest kid.

Q: How could they solve the problem?

Margot: They could ask a grown up.

Nolan: They could give her a hug and say “Sorry”

Fang: They could say “Are you ok?”

Q: What could you do if you see someone like this?

Grace: You could go play with them! The welcome rule.

Evy: You let people play with you.
