BUDDIES AND BUILDING

We started a new multi step project today. Each friend chose which shape they preferred from triangle, square, rectangle, trapezoid, hexagon, and circle, before drawing the shape multiple times on a large piece of paper.  The children could use a tracer or try to draw the shape freehand.  Deciding if  they wanted the shapes to overlap.

Over the next few days everyone will get the chance to draw the shapes in pencil, and trace over the pencil with permanent marker.  Then we will look at painting the shapes, and painting the background.  When they are complete they look stunning.  We are hopingt to finish them before winter break.

We managed to get outside to play in the snow before our 8th grade buddies visited.  The children and their buddies were asked to build using the different materials in the room.  They could decide where they wanted to work.  Their 8th grade buddies helped our students extend their thinking about how to use the materials and what to build.

On Friday we will be making gingerbread cookies so today we read The gingerbread man by Barbara Baumgartner.

QUESTIONS
