Ms. Lukkason the lower school music teacher (Margot's mom) arranged for us to meet her friend Fatawu from Ghana. She sent us video clips and pictures of some of the drum music and dancing from that region, as well as a map and images of the city. This gave us the opportunity to talk about some of the similarities and differences between Ghana and America.
The children had a lot of fun dancing and drumming along to the videos.

A group of students worked on making 3 batches of gingerbread cookie dough (Vegan, Gluten free, and regular which are also halal). Tomorrow we can decorate and bake them . YUMMY! Lets hope they don't run away.
Ms Lane also joined us for our art lesson. Our class decorated a wood cookie with holes in using beautiful multi- colored yarn and beads.
Before meeting Fatawu we had time to read a story, 'The gingerbread pirates' by Kristin Kladstrup. The story is about gingerbread pirates who meet Santa. After reading the story we talked about how different it was from the gingerbread man story we read earlier this week. We also talked about different celebrations that go on at this time of year. The children told me about Christmas, Hannukah, and Chinese New Year.
Near the end of the morning we went to Ms Lukkason's room to join her and Fatawu and learn a drumming pattern.
