Hello to all my PK families.
We are about to embark on an unexpected journey that we are calling “Remote Teaching and Learning.” It’s the ultimate collaboration of home and school! My goal is to support your child’s sense of well-being, grow their thinking and create opportunities for them to feel a sense of meaningful connection with their classmates (and teachers) through the coming weeks.
Since spring break began, we’ve been brainstorming what’s left in the curriculum for this year and researching online resources for additional ideas that will engage your child and support their continued growth and development.
As we plan for the weeks ahead we would like to hear your thoughts and build around what will best work for your family. Please email me your responses to the questions below.
1. How has your child responded to the idea that they are not returning to school after Spring Break, but will be “doing school” at home?
2. What (if any) discoveries have you already made that you’re finding support your child’s learning and connection to others?
3. Who will be with your PK child Monday through Thursday mornings, providing the learning support?
4. What time in the morning do you anticipate starting your “school” day?
5. Where in your home is there a place you can designate as their school spot/desk to keep their supplies?
6. What else do you think I need to know?
The envelope has their journal, 3 coloring sheets of their animal, a bird identification sheet and a bird behavior sheet. Please let your child know these are to stay in their school spot until we need them.
Do you have these items at home for your child to use?
Scissors, tape/glue, white paper, colored paper, pen, pencil, markers/colored pencils, playdough, blocks or lego. Please don't worry if you don't, I am just trying to find out what everyone does have.
I am viewing this experience as an adventure, and will encourage your child to think of it the same way. On Monday I am hosting a meeting at 9:00 a.m. via zoom to answer questions and share information. I will record the meeting for those that are not able to attend.
On Tuesday I am looking forward to trying to connect with the whole class for a morning meeting.
See you at the meeting Lisa Small
