OUR NAMES

Yesterday, as I mentioned we used Celluclay.  It is always interesting to see what the children think of the sticky clay after using model magic.  Only a couple of them were unsure about it but everyone made a sculpture.  Toothpicks were a popular medium and students are excited to bring their creations home.

Today we took a closer look at the letters in our name. Each child was asked to create their name at least once, using stamps or letter tiles, as well as writing it.  If you have not used stamps before it can be tricky to figure out which side you press into the ink, and how to get the letter the correct way round when you press it on the paper.

One of our friends has a passion for drawing mazes.  Yes, you guessed correctly, it is Nolan.  I asked him if he wanted to create one in the classroom for friends to play with. Fang and Austin worked with Nolan, and each day we add a little more to it.  If you are in the classroom this week you might want to try it out.  I have it on good authority there are no traps, yet.

We managed to spend time in our new playground yesterday.  When we dug into the sand we found SURPRISE! water  at the bottom.  After all the rain last night and this morning, BIGGER SURPRISE!! a pond instead of a sand area.

We had fun testing out the new equipment.

Others preferred to sit quietly in the acorn chairs while looking at a little patch of mud that was forming in the center. Why is it there? How did it get there?  Is it mud?  Is it water?

There was a lot of discussion and disagreement about if it was mud or water.  Friends had to test the area out with their feet to help them make a decision.  Hypothesis, experimentation and conclusion.

We tried to go outside today but just as we walked outside it started to rain, heavily.  The ground is already waterlogged from the rain and a few friends didn't have all their rain gear. No problem, we sang a new song 'Telephone song', a couple of friends already knew it and were able to help start us off. We also played a game of 'Captain says'.

Enjoy your evening.  I am going to have a large cup of cocoa, just the thing on a wet, cool, cloudy day.

BOOKS

My place in space is about a brother and sister who want to take a bus home.  The driver asks them if they know where they live.  They give him a very long explanation.

The next 2 days we will be returning to Lois Ehlert books.  Today we read Eating the Alphabet to get our brains thinking about different fruits and vegetables we might see.

QUESTIONS

What is your favorite thing to play with on the new playground?
Do you prefer model magic or Celluclay?
