Part of math in Pre-k is differentiating, sorting and classification. Everyone found one yellow, one red, and one orange item in the classroom. We looked at what made them different, the same, or exactly the same.
Are these the same? (Held up a variety of red scissors)
Everyone: "No."
Luca: "Because there's one that's bigger."
I showed them 3 animals from different color groups.
"What about these animals?"
Beatrix: "That ones bigger."
Margot: "They're all different colors."
Grace: "They're all animals."
Nolan looking at yellow objects "This one (truck) is smaller than that (tape).
What about these tapes?
Fang: They're all yellow
Beatrix: That one is small, that one is medium, and that one is big."
Margot:"That one is a different kind of tape."
