What a fun Monday. A new side to explore. Lots of singing and laughter. We had so many new things to experience. Quite a few friends felt they needed snack before making another workchoice.
We offered red and yellow paint mixing at the big table so friends could create their own special orange color, and name it if they wanted to.
We started with yellow water in the sensory table and then added lots of red food coloring to see what happened. Some friends decided it was honey, while others were selling it as warm honey milk, sounds delicious.
Big blocks was a big hit. Austin decided to build a boat, Luca helped. Margot and Evy decided it was the ideal place to sing a song about Iowa. I did not get the chance to find out why Iowa but I am sure as the week goes on I will solve the mystery.
I don't know how many of you are familiar with the Reggio Emilia approach which inspires a lot of what we try to do in our classroom. Here is Ike showing us the multiple languages that Loriz Malaguzzi talks about . see link for further information..https://reggioemilia2015.weebly.com/the-100-languages.html
Ike started at the inventions center and created a rocket ship, he felt fire was needed at the bottom. He mixed an orange for the fire.
While he was waiting for it to dry we started playing on the white board and he wanted to create his rocket ship which I drew for him. Ike added planets and showed how an asteriod went through all of them.
He then came over to the light table after creating an asteroid shooter at the inventions center and made a space ship out of the magnet tiles. You can see the asteroid shooter is flying through the sky.
He told me it was flying to Neptune, and drew a picture of "Neptune, frozen, cause it is cold"
Here are a few more photos and Austin's laugh sums up our day
Cannot wait to see what the rest of the week reveals. don't forget Picture day tomorrow. You can sign up online or fill in the form and return it to school with your child tomorrow morning. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1v4QzOJi5DR9d1sYuyn1dwpXaQ7Cuwrd_M5F80s1xqOg/edit
OOPS!
Realized that book information and questions didn't download, my mistake. Here are the book and questions for the last 2 days as well as pictures from today. I did find out why Margot was singing about IOWA, it is where her grandparents live.
Fang and Nolan know a lot about space and started to create the solar system on our white board.
I have already been to the library to aid in our exploration of space. We will see where this leads us over the next couple of days.
A number of students worked on a mural, mixing red and yellow to make orange. We will look at our mural and see if there is a story we can create from the painting. Here is Beatrix, and Austin adding the finishing touches.

Luca is one of our experts at the Invention center. Today he created a bow and arrow out of construction paper, tape and string.
A group of friends were inspired and wished to make their own version. Luca willing showed them how to make a bow and arrow and how to shoot it.
After P.E. we went out side to enjoy the beautiful weather and to have fun on the playground.
A new spider game was created by the children. As you can see from the pictures, lots of spiders are on the giant web catching bugs and eating them. Unfortunately, I kept getting caught and eaten.
LOIS EHLERT BOOKS
