A VISIT FROM DOCTOR YU

Community Day started with all of us playing on the playground then returning to the classroom where Doctor Yu read 'Count on me' by Miguel Tanco.    Everyone has a passion for something, the little girl in the story has a passion for math.  As the year progresses we hope to find out what your child is passionate about.

Chalk pastels and potion making were special work choices.

Two friends realized that if you rubbed the pastels on to the paper

your hands turn beautiful colors

and you can make a second piece of art using your handprints.

We noticed over the last 2 weeks that friends in the water table or rice table would start to make potions so felt this was a good time to give them a larger variety of items to create with.

We placed oil, vinegar, colored water, glitter, glue, and spices for their potions.  Making potions allows children to explore, actively learn, create and critically think, while deciding what they want to turn themselves or others into.We had ended up with witch, frog, dragon, rainbow and sprinkle potions.

We ended our morning by visiting one of the Transportation Supervisors at the Aamoth parking lot and had our bus safety meeting.  Each child got to climb on to the bus and then practice jumping out the emergency exit, with teacher support.

This afternoon we were allowed to play on the new playground.YAY!!!

Enjoy your weekend.  We will be reading books about space and trying to answer a couple of questions that friends asked after we read 'If you decide to go to the moon' by Faith McNulty.

Questions such as Why is there a moon?  Why is there space?
We will start by brainstorming what the children do know and ask what else they want to know.

Enjoy your weekend
