CORN AND CREAM

If you remember our trip to the farm was delayed due to weather, causing it to happen during the same week as Halloween and Day of the dead.  Nothing can compete with Halloween and Day of the Dead so we decided to revisit some of the topics we talked about around the time of our our visit to the farm, in relation to corn and milk products, and what we see in our home.

I had helpers come over and make butter.  We realized it takes a lot of energy and time to churn cream into butter.  I think I was over ambitious and put too much cream in the churn.

We worked hard with a lot of help, and managed to get the cream to separate into butter and buttermilk.  On Monday we will make pancakes using the left over buttermilk.

Mr. Andrews made corn chowder .

Lots of children were willing to help chop the vegetables for the soup.  We will taste test it on Monday.  Everyone will be able to try it as we made two pots, one with cream and one vegan.

Of course we had more construction work going on.

We ended our community day with another musical performance produced by children from both classes.
