We were Scientists today taking a closer look at snowflakes. Some of the class even remembered the names of the four types of snowflakes, needles, columns, sector plates and thin plates.
We started creating snowflakes with model magic and discussed symmetry. When you do something to one part of the snowflake you have to do it to the others.
FANG: "A black hole destroying a star. A super massive black hole where gravity is so strong nothing can escape."
IKE: "It looks like guards guarding a snowman."
LUCA: "I need my journal. I'm going to draw what I make. It's a sector plate."
ELLA: "I made dots, it's a rainbow snowflake."
Margot heard Ella say rainbow snowflake and liked it so much she decided to call hers a rainbow snowflake."
EVY: "This is a candy snowflake and the snowman, I'm going to call him Maeve."
Everyone will get a chance to create a snowflake but we had to get ready to go outside and run around before our 8th grade buddies joined us.
Our buddies helped our PreK students decorate the room with snowflakes they made together out of coffee filters. Trying to remember how to fold the filter just the right way so you get six sides that are the same can be tricky.
QUESTIONS
What was for snack today ?
How many snowflakes did you make with your 8th grade buddy?
