Our Tuesday challenge was back on track today. Friends all came up with a different work choice to start the morning. Building with Duplos was a popular choice. Ike and Luca started building a tower trying to see if they could build it as tall as Luca.
Hmm! How do you make a tall tower and make it stable enough to stay up?
It took a number of tries to achieve their goal insisting they were going to make it work with only one block on top of another. As you can see they did it, unfortunately it fell down soon after. We can always try again tomorrow and maybe use a different strategy.
Leonard decided to use two blocks overlapping two blocks to make a stable tower.
Solveig, Grace and Ella were at the light table writing with the alphabet and name transparencies. Practicing the letters of the alphabet and how to write your friends name.
Valentina and Grace made snowflakes, it takes persistence to search for 6 of the same bead.
What happens if I can't find 6 the same? Does it have to be symmetrical?
No, some students see the symmetry and search for just the right number of beads others just love working with pretty, shiny beads and want to use all of them.
They look beautiful, symmetrical or not.
Dress-up was busy, we had Doctors and police officers.
Which quickly changed into Margot and Evy, the Princesses going to the Dentist. While Doctor Ella went to snack. Fang was playing the part of the Dentist and Luca decided he was the Dentist's security guard. Why does a Dentist need a security guard? If you want to play police officer and everyone else has moved on to playing Dentist. You have to quickly make a decision. What can I be in this new game that allows me to walk around talking on a walkie talkie? Answer, security guard. Flexible and creative minds, that is what I love about these children.
At the end of the morning we read a non-fiction book called Flakes and Flurries, A book about snow by Josepha Sherman.
